- About Us
Pioneer Library System coordinates system wide delivery of materials to our 42 member libraries in Ontario, Wayne, Wyoming and Livingston Counties and six correctional facilities.
Delivery is provided six days a week and a fleet of three vans cover over 750 miles in four counties. Our vans pick up and drop off materials requested via the OWWL catalog on a scheduled basis.
Over 456,000 items move through Pioneer delivery on a yearly basis. Due to the increased sharing of materials between member libraries our vans now run at full capacity on a daily basis.
Pioneer Library System’s Computer and Networking Services Department oversees technical support, training and system wide resource sharing within OWWL. The department maintains the servers and equipment that support OWWL (our system wide online catalog), library website hosting, and email services. In addition the department assists member libraries in setting policy, exploring and adapting new technology, and maintaining good practices for network security.
Pioneer Library System provides support, training and guidance to our 42 member libraries in the following areas:
- Administration and Governance
- Collection Development
- Teen and Children’s Services
- Public Relations/Marketing
- Trustee relations
- Long Range Planning
- Rotating and Special Collections
Pioneer Library System provides centralized cataloging of member library materials and database record maintenance for the OWWL catalog.
Member libraries alert PLS cataloging staff when new materials are being added to their collections. Pioneer then adds a catalog record to OWWL. Over 27,000 records a year are added to the OWWL catalog and constant database cleanup and merging of records is performed.
Pioneer Library System coordinates system wide inter library loans for member libraries. The System researches and places requests for materials not owned within the OWWL system for member library patrons. A fee of $5.00 per request is charged to offset the costs involved with special database searching, the requesting software, and postage and handling for these requests regardless of fill.
Libraries outside the Pioneer Library System should submit an official ALA ILL request form to:Pioneer Library System
